Customised Solutions

Perhaps the simplest example of a customised solution is an Excel spreadsheet running a few macros. Another example could be a customised installation of ACT to manage your business contacts for a small pool of sales reps.

Customised solutions can work for many small businesses. They are generally not too expensive to get started with and will allow some room for future requirements to be added. They are understood by a reasonably large number of support groups so there is always help available.

The downside to these solutions if that they have limits. An access database may server a company well for a number of years, but when records start hitting 300,000 lines, Access can become unusable.
